We Need A New Approach To Web Security

Friday, September 16th, 2011 | Hack, Info-Sec, Research, Security

So every week it seems a new set of supposedly secure organizations/websites get hacked, including two days ago the very organization that was created to lead the effort in cyber security for the United States, the RSA (as well as one CIA site) were hacked + even altered. Does anyone else think it’s time we stop wasting all this money on frivolous things and start spending it on cultivating the types of curious, technologically advanced folks already living in the US (“hackers” if u have to use that word) into working along side us instead of against us. Because the it seems like the sub-par security firms we currently are paying billions to each year via taxes don’t understand how DNS works. Why not approach these groups with open arms, asking for help in securing our infrastructure. World war III will not be from a bomb being dropped by a key being hit which sends off a bot-net on a rampage taking down our power-grids, banking systems, bringing this entire nation to a fend-for-itself civil war as every man ends up fighting for whatever little supplies they can scavenge, steal or buy (ok now i’m taking my tin foil hat off). But seriously. Let’s get the new bread of hackers we have here in the states working on our side rather than issuing them ultimatums and threats which so far they’ve been unable to back up. In fact, with each threat, the attacks by them on our own organizations get worse.

Everyone go read the hackers manifesto and cut the crap. Wikileaks isn’t the problem, the fact you’re pulling these back-door attempts at stopping the truth that you dropped the ball in multiple situations from reaching the public.. also known as the very same people who put you in power is pathetic.

What i love reading about is how these cheap arduino kits when attached to RC planes/helicopters can fly around sniffing wifi packets (i.e. with the intent to use the data to break into the network) are being stated as costing well over $1000 is a joke. You can put a micro board together that does that automatically for under $50, then add the cost of an RC helicopter powerful enough to cary the tiny little micro-board up in the air and you’re still looking at something under $300. And that will only go down in price as we advance in technology faster than our politicians seen to be advancing in intelligence/common sense.
